We are standing at an unprecedented pivot point in history where we face a stark divergence between a great future – where we solve cancer and secure unlimited energy – and a dark reality of authoritarianism and a total loss of control over artificial intelligence

Having lived in the United States for twenty years and now residing in Zurich, I watch tech giants like Nvidia and OpenAI amass staggering market valuations while pursuing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) designed to become ‘digital humans’ i.e. to supersede us.

An OpenAI executive even declared their ambition for ChatGPT to become the “operating system for our lives”. Yet, we must remind ourselves that we never asked for a computer to manage our existence; the true operating system of our lives is society, community, and other human beings.

As the geopolitical architecture reshuffles and Germany’s economic dominance declines, the power center in Europe is shifting south, giving Spain a tremendous opportunity to champion a new paradigm of sustainable capitalism focused on People, Planet, Purpose, and Prosperity. We must firmly reject the Silicon Valley narrative that this hyper-technological future is inevitable, insisting instead that machines remain competent tools rather than conscious gods. To secure el buen futuro, we must allocate just as much funding to human alignment, arts, education, and community—the androrithms—as we do to technological expansion. The wolf you feed is the wolf that wins, and it is up to us to actively shape our tomorrow rather than allowing it to be stolen from us.
