The document below was written in 2022 but it’s still valuable:)  Ot’s a policy paper I made for the ELF, examining how Europe can proactively shape its future amidst rapid technological advancements. The paper advocates for a new “operating system” for Europe, one that balances technological innovation with humanistic principles.

I emphasize the importance of ethical considerations in the development and deployment of AI, suggesting the creation of a Digital Ethics Council. Furthermore, the document calls for a shift beyond GDP as the sole measure of progress, advocating for a “4Ps” (now, the 5Ps.) approach: People, Planet, Purpose, and Prosperity. I urge European policymakers to foster future thought-leadership and promote sustainable economic models.

March 2022: The Good The Bad and the Future

My Call to Action

Adopt a Future Mindset: Become comfortable with uncertainty, and with being uncomfortable. Stop relying on past achievements and assuming that the future is someone else’s responsibility. Europe needs a Future Mindset—one capable of creating a future that is not only smart, but also wise.

Dramatically increase support for innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital while preserving our human values. Redesign education, taxation, and regulation to empower creators, builders, and innovators.

Reinvent Our Economic Model: Rethink Europe’s increasingly fragile model of social capitalism and develop a future-fit economic framework based on the 5Ps. This may include ambitious initiatives such as a truly pan-European capital market, and a pan-European military.

Prepare for the Future of Work: Explore mechanisms such as Universal Basic Capital and a European AI Wealth Fund to ensure that the wealth generated by AI benefits all citizens as automation transforms every industry and labor market

Strengthen European Sovereignty: Build greater European sovereignty across critical domains, including technology, artificial intelligence, energy, defense, and strategic infrastructure.

Complete the European Project: Move beyond coordination toward genuine integration. Make the vision of a United States of Europe a reality.

I see a strong connection between America’s political decline into autocracy and the systematic weakening of important global institutions such as the U.N., on the one hand, and the rise of unaccountable AI empires and the reckless acceleration toward superintelligence i.e. #artificialgeneralintelligence, on the other hand. I believe that Europe must urgently ‘Take back tomorrow” in 2026 by – among many other things – disengaging from the longstanding US domination and resisting The Don’s path of #thebadfuture, by building human-centered AI as a strategic advantage, by bolstering technological sovereignty without isolation, by investing in uniquely human capacities (what I call the #androrithms), by leading a new global alliance of trust with partners beyond US politics, and by redefining success beyond GDP through “5P” economics: people, planet, purpose, peace, and prosperity.
