As a Futurist, Public Thinker and Keynote Speaker my objective is the 5Ps: People, Planet, Purpose, Peace and Prosperity. My core mission is ensuring that we navigate the shift into the Intelligence Age of AI without losing our humanity (latest videos here).
Here is my summary of where we stand today and where we must go:
1. The AI Emergency and Explicit vs. Tacit Knowledge
We are witnessing exponential growth in objective, explicit and ‘plot-extended‘ computer knowledge, while human’s tacit knowledge risks shrinking due to increased cognitive outsourcing. The core challenge of today’s AI discussion is that we cannot let machine’s logic take over as the only form of ‘efficient’ knowledge. Therefore, while AI offers immense opportunities, it also presents an emergency as AI frontier labs are increasingly attempting to ‘automate everything’ i.e. to replace human wisdom with machine logic (‘the good enough dilemma’). The idea of giving autonomous AI agents authority over critical infrastructure – such as the electric grid, financial systems, or weapons – represents the peak of confusion, imho.
2. Intelligence is Not Consciousness
A fundamental mistake people make is assuming that incredible machine intelligence will eventually lead to consciousness. But Intelligence is about solving problems, whereas consciousness is about feeling, sensing, and being. Yes, AI can simulate aspects of consciousness, but intelligence and consciousness remain two completely different things.
3. Rebalancing Investment in Humanity
Currently, huge investments go toward AI, cloud infrastructure, server farms, and data-centers, leaving only a mere pittance for human issues like restructuring work, education or establishing basic capital. This is a supreme short-falling imho. I strongly advocate redirecting a much higher percentage of our resources toward preparing humanity for this AI-fuelled transition, rather than just building better machines (hardware or software),
4. Politics for a Human-Worthy Future
The traditional political debates between capitalism, socialism, liberalism, and communism are quickly becoming obsolete in the Intelligence Age. Today, politics comes down to one single question: will it create a good, human-worthy future? Achieving this will require bold measures, such as declaring an AI emergency or establishing universal basic capital to support civil society – and democracy – through this shift.
5. Balancing Tools and Telos
Geopolitically, alliances are shifting – such as the growing division, or rather… DIVORCE… between Europe and America – which is paradoxically spurring positive changes like a boom in green energy and ‘digital sovereignty‘. However, to guide our long-term destination, we need dedicated global leadership, such as a Chief Futurist at the UN or a Ministry for the Future (see KSR’s book). Let’s remember the distinction between our tools (technology and techne) and our telos—our ultimate human destination and purpose!
